Hi, I'm Liberty!
I'm a performer, theatre director, choreographer, and performing arts teacher. I have a BFA in musical theatre, 6+ years of teaching experience, and many performing and creative team credits under my belt.
I love bring stories of all kinds to life and value collaboration in every process I'm a part of, whether I'm working with seasoned industry professionals or eager seven-year-olds new to performing. I'm a multi-hyphenate who loves to dabble in different creative areas and try new things. Learning never ends.
If you're curious and want to read my full bio, feel free to scroll down. If not, basically it just says I studied musical theatre in university, did some professional performing, taught some things, directed some things, and also sometimes have hobbies I do for fun.
I'd love to hear from you! Drop me a line:

Liberty Laferriere is a performer and multidisciplinary theatre artist, originally from and currently based in Calgary, Alberta. She has been in love with the arts for her entire life and, at the age of seventeen, moved to Philadelphia to pursue a BFA in musical theatre at the University of the Arts. She graduated in 2019.
At UArts, Liberty appeared in several school productions, including The Bourgeois Gentleman (directed by KC MacMillan), Parade (directed by Nicholas Wainwright), and A Chorus Line (directed by Katie Donovan). Her proudest achievement from this time was collaborating with Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning musical theatre writer Michael R. Jackson on his new musical, White Girl in Danger, in which she played Meagan Whitehead in both the 2017 workshop reading and the 2018 Polyphone Festival production. Regionally, Liberty has appeared in Guys and Dolls (ensemble) at the Candlelight Dinner Theatre in Delaware, Saturday Night Fever (ensemble/Stephanie u/s) in Pennsylvania, and Tuck Everlasting (Winnie's mother/Mae u/s) at the White Plains Performing Arts Center in New York. Before COVID, she had begun work on MyPlate, a touring musical educating children in schools about the US food guide. Liberty also appeared in a political ad campaign called Elections Matter, various dance shows, and many cabarets and performances.
Liberty also loves directing, choreographing, and teaching. In university, she co-founded and acted as co-artistic director for her student-led theatre company, Coffee Cup Cabaret, and in her sophomore year directed the debut production, Ms. Cast: a Genderbent Cabaret. Other credits include: More Than Tracy Turnblad by Abby Morris (assistant director/dramaturg, Coffee Cup Cabaret 2018, Edinburgh Fringe 2022); Summer by Suni B. Rose (Equinox New Play Festival 2019), and A Midsummer Night's Dream: A Radio Play (Braving the Bard 2020), which you can listen to at the Spotify link in her directing portfolio on this website.
In the 2021-2022 school year, Liberty was the Director of Theatre Arts for Children and Youth, where she taught musical theatre, dance, acting, and voice lessons to more than one hundred students aged 4 to 20. She also directed, choreographed, music directed, and stage managed The Little Mermaid Jr. and High School Musical Jr. for the musical theatre program in addition to teaching classes. She also created educational video content for the studio's social media platforms.
As a teacher, Liberty has also taught at Yes! And... Collaborative Arts, the UArts Pre-College Program, Ballet Academy East Summerdance in New York City, the City of Airdrie, Bowtown Music, and Puddle of Mud productions. She also takes private voice students. Liberty served as a writing, music skills, and dance tutor at UArts for three years and was awarded the Excellence in Tutoring Award in 2019 for her dedicated services.
Liberty is been part of many new theatre development processes and is passionate about helping bring new plays and musicals to life. She has been involved in new work as an actor, director, writer, and dramaturg before and loves to participate from either side of the table. Notable new work credits include White Girl in Danger (Michael R. Jackson), More Than Tracy Turnblad (Abby Morris), Summer (Suni B. Rose), and Daybreak: a New Musical (Nathan Clift, currently in development). Liberty especially enjoyed developing new work with her theatre friends and collaborators throughout COVID-19, when performing opportunities were limited.
In her spare time, Liberty enjoys writing, Olympic weightlifting, figure skating, and participating in adult gymnastics and acro classes at CAPTivate Calgary. She also loves spending time with her sweet pet bunny, whom she impulse-named Mister Mistoffelees after seeing the Cats (2019) movie, which she found simultaneously terrible and entertaining.
